Dear Richmond Ramblers Members and Affiliates
RICHMOND RAMBLERS MENTORING SCHEME 2026
Richmond Ramblers has introduced a scheme to mentor potential new walk leaders. The mentors will be experienced walk leaders from Richmond Ramblers or from other Ramblers groups. The potential new walk leaders will be members of Richmond Ramblers or other Ramblers groups.
The role of mentors will be to assist in the selection of walking routes, to accompany potential leaders on the recce of those routes, and if desired, to join the new leaders on the first walks that they lead.
If you would like to join the Mentoring Scheme as either an experienced walk leader or a potential new leader please contact our Mentoring Coordinator: Andrew McKay, telephone 02086773808, email
The role of the Mentoring Coordinator is to assemble a panel of experienced walk leaders prepared to act as mentors, and to put potential leaders wishing to be mentored in touch with suitable mentors.
Ramblers require new leaders to complete an online or paper leadership training course before leading their first walk.
This document also appears on the Walkers Pages section of the Richmond Ramblers website and the contact details are listed in each monthly Walks Programme.
Each of our mentors has an ‘oven ready’ walking route which you can use to lead your first walk if you don’t already have one of your own in mind. These routes come with a map and some guidance notes and a draft of the description of the walk that will go into the Walks Programme. The current list of ‘oven ready’ routes is:
