 Secretary’s post

I shall be standing down as secretary and from the committee at the next AGM. I have been a member of the committee for 10 years in various roles (publicity officer, website manager, and social media officer) and feel it is time for someone else to take over. The role of secretary mainly entails organising meetings and accompanying documents, and making sure that records are kept up to date and safe.

The other main duty is overseeing the production of our four-monthly programmes, which are compiled by the walk organisers. Good IT skills are essential. If you would like to contribute to the group by taking over this key role, please contact me or Alan Matthews to find out more as soon as possible. Mavis White

Treasurer’s role

Following the AGM, the treasurer’s role became unexpectedly vacant. Alan Matthews was temporarily co-opted to the post at the January committee meeting. Alan is already group chair and webmaster and we need a volunteer to take over this vital role at the next AGM. If you have a talent for figures and would like to find out more about what is involved, please contact Alan Alan Matthews

Publicity/Social Media Officer

Following the next AGM there will also be a vacancy for a Publicity/Social Media Officer. The social media aspect involves sharing photos from walks, and posts from other groups and organisations which might be of interest. On Facebook you would need to act as Admin to ensure posts from others are appropriate and are within the group’s rules. I am currently the only Admin, but this role can be shared with others. If you would like to know more, please contact me: Mavis White

Walk with London Blind Ramblers – Sunday 15 May 2022 – Booking essential

A walk has been arranged with London Blind Ramblers from Richmond to Kingston on Sunday 15 May 2022 (see description in the programme). Each blind walker needs to be accompanied by a sighted volunteer and we would like to be able to accommodate 10 blind ramblers. If you would like to come along as a companion walker on the day, please let Alick know asap so that we can confirm the numbers we can accommodate to London Blind Ramblers. The overall group limit is 20. Contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Spring Picnic and 40th Anniversary Celebration – 22 May 2022

This will be our first social event since the start of the pandemic and we hope you will join us for a leisurely picnic in the Woodland Gardens by the Pheasantry in Bushy Park to link up with friends old and new and celebrate our 40th anniversary. There will be a short morning walk in the park beforehand, but you can just come along to the picnic if you prefer. Please let Alan Matthews know if you are intending to come, or you might miss out on a piece of anniversary cake! See programme for contact details.

Surrey Area Ramblers – Summer Get-together: 9 July 2022

The Area AGM is usually an opportunity for people from different groups to mix. However, as it has been held online for the last two years, Surrey Area has decided to arrange an event in the summer, primarily outdoors, so that members from different groups can get together. The event is still at the planning stage. Once details are known, they will be circulated by email. If you do not use email and are interested in knowing more, please contact me nearer the event date. Mavis White

Active Crete Holiday Offer

The holiday company Active Crete (https://activecrete.gr/walking-holiday/) is offering to make a £40 donation to the group for any of our members who book a holiday with them. It doesn’t matter which type of holiday it is, eg: walking/walking & painting/yoga & hiking/painting, a donation will be made. The group must be stated at time of booking, as donations will not be made retrospectively.
